A roll of walnut or oak is wrapped around the central core of amps and drive units, and this sits on a pedestal. In asking around, this has been described as an ‘ice cream cone’, a ‘tornado’ and – said without pretence, and in fairness with some accuracy – ‘temaki sushi’. There are a few inverted conical shapes in audio, but none quite so sweeping. Let’s start with the obvious, the Davone Meander’s industrial design. In fairness, Davone still makes conventional active and passive loudspeakers, but in that range, the Meander stands alone.

The company has retained a love of curved wood and contrasting drivers hidden behind a black cloth, but the intervening dozen or so years has changed everything. This was a really clever passive floorstanding loudspeaker that looked – from the side at least – a bit like the original Star Trek badge worn by Captain Kirk. Those with good memories might recall an early Davone product the Rithm loudspeaker that we reviewed way back in issue 76. The Danish Davone company is a rare exception to the rule and the Meander shows why. Loudspeakers doubly so – even clever, leading-edge designs – are typically squared-off rectangular or rounded boat-backed boxes. Meander is out in theaters and on VOD on July 9, 2021.While there are a lot of new audio products out there, few challenge the accepted norms of audio design quite like the Davone Meander.

Whatever he has done in the past, Mathieu Turi certainly knows how to create intensity and fear with this new sci-fi horror movie. For one, he was a “first assistant director” on the 2012 horror anthology The ABCs of Death and also worked on the 2014 Rosemary’s Baby mini-series. Prior to his feature film debut, he had written and directed two short films. However, his career started before this when he worked as an “assistant director” in various capacities. His debut came in 2017 with the sci-fi horror movie Hostile so this director has definitely chosen his genre. Meander is only the second feature film for Mathieu Turi as both writer and director. Mathieu Turi is the writer and director of this new Sci-Fi Horror movie. You can read our season 1 review of La Révolution here >Īlso, we’ll see her again soon in the horror movies Shepherd and The Bunker Game as well as the thriller Victims. All three genre movies are either completed or in post-production, so we have plenty to look forward to. Also, she’s in the French zombie / alternative period piece Netflix series La Révolution. If you’re a fan of the Vikings series, you may recognize her as “Porunn” from that series. Gaia Weiss is perfect in the lead and has all the making of being a horror final girl.

What happens next (this is just a few minutes into this movie) is a straight-up nightmare that just gets continuously worse.

On a night when she’s ready to take her own life, she comes across a man who turns out to (probably!) be the serial killer everyone is currently hunting. Gaia Weiss stars in Meander as Lisa, a woman who has given up on life after losing her child. Gaia Weiss is perfect for genre productions!
